Undergraduate participants: $2,104.00
Graduate participants: $2,650.00

Cost includes the following:

  • Six undergraduate or three graduate credit hours of tuition and fees
  • $200 non-refundable application fee
  • Room and board
  • Transportation in Belize
  • Health insurance

Payment Schedule

First Payment $200.00 March 26, 2010
Final Payment $1,904 (graduate course) or $2,450 (undergraduate course) June 9, 2010

Participants may lose all or part of the deposit or total payment made if cancellation occurs. The $200 application fee is non-refundable.

All Study Abroad Program payments can be made using either of the following two options:

  1. Online payments: Go to http://uweb.txstate.edu/gao/study_abroad/
     
  2. Cash and check payments are accepted at the cashier's office, located on the first floor of the J.C. Kellam Administration Building. Be sure to bring your Texas State ID number with you, and indicate to the cashier that you are paying for a Study Abroad Program. Please pay the amount indicated on the payment schedule for your program.

Please note:

  • All study abroad registrations must be made in the Study Abroad Office located at 302 ASB North.
     
  • By making your first payment (online or at the cashier's office) you are agreeing to the payment and cancellation policies established for your study abroad program.
     
  • After making your first payment, you are required to submit your study abroad application packet to the Study Abroad Office on or before the next business day, or your payment may be refunded less the $200 non-refundable application fee.

  • It was an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I met a lot of great people.
  • I think you learn so much by having lectures and field work.
  • If you love archaeology, you will love this trip.

11. Briefly describe your best experience in this program:

  • The optional trip to the ATM Cave (4)
  • Visiting Tikal (3)
  • Finding the figurine head
  • The whole experience of visiting the ATM Cave, through the jungle, into the cave through the river, and then climbing up to see the artifacts, was unbelievable
  • Meeting local people
  • I learned more about the subject than I thought I would.
  • Staying in Flores, Guatemala, for a weekend trip
  • I loved the excavation during the week.
  • Traveling on the weekends

12. Briefly describe your worst experience in this program:

  • Field lunches (2)
  • Generalized favoritism
  • Being hung over at work
  • Lack of sleep due to my own desire not to miss anything about the country
  • Eating meat
  • Bruising my back in the cave
  • Rasta Rash

13. List information that you did not receive that you think is important for future participants to have:

  • You need more than $500 in spending money.
  • Bring a lot — like a gallon — of the strongest bug spray you can find.
  • Bring Imodium AD and Pepto Bismol.
  • Makes sure all of your money is in travelers' checks.
  • Conserve your money!
  • Get used to spending all your time with other people, including strangers.
  • Save a little money to pay for the exit fee from Belize.

  • The atmospheres of Cayo and all the places we traveled were great and friendly.
  • This program is an amazing opportunity, and I feel very lucky to have participated in it. I would recommend it for everyone.
  • Being immersed in the culture here was a great experience.
  • I think Dr. Garber did an excellent job presenting the material and explaining what we were trying to do here. Overall, it was the best class I have taken.

  • This course is the best way to experience archaeology. Any serious anthropology major (archaeology or other) should participate.
